Calving season

Every January, up to 8,000 wildebeest calves are born a day on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu — and every predator on the ecosystem follows the herds in for the easiest hunting season of the year.

What to expect
Enormous herds concentrated on the southern short-grass plains
Some of the year's best big-cat action as predators follow the calves
Warm, mostly dry weather with occasional short showers
Quieter camps than the July–October peak, with easier availability
