Built from a small beginning, driven by a bigger vision
Tazan Tours is a locally owned safari company based in Arusha, at the foot of Kilimanjaro. We were founded by guides — people who grew up reading these plains and wanted to share them honestly.
Every safari and climb is planned and operated by our own team, never subcontracted. That means better prices, tighter quality control, and a level of care that only comes from doing it yourself. We’re proud members of TATO and give back through community and conservation work across northern Tanzania — and we’re just one part of a bigger story, which started a long way from the savannah.

It started with one customer, not one business plan

In 2018, Abdulhamid Rafii Amir was a 19-year-old college student with no capital, no company and no safety net — just an idea. He started selling food to fellow students, one plate and one customer at a time.
It wasn’t much of a business on paper. But it taught him how to serve people, manage money, keep promises and get back up after a bad week. Those lessons, learned the hard way at 19, are the same ones that run every trip we plan today.

As the business grew, Abdulhamid moved into mobile phones and electronics, and then kept looking outward. The vision kept getting bigger than the business in front of him — until it became Tazan: one brand, built across several industries, united by the same willingness to start small and work for it.
Tazan Tours is where that vision met the landscape he grew up in. Today, it’s how we connect travellers with the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and the long walk to the summit of Kilimanjaro — not as a line item, but as the chapter of Tazan that gets to say: where the jungle is our playground.

Part of a bigger family
Tazan Tours grew out of Tazan, a Tanzanian-founded brand that started with a 19-year-old selling food to fellow students and has since grown into electronics (Tazan Stores), vehicles (Tazan Motors) and community work (the Tazan Foundation). Tours is the chapter that gets to put Tanzania itself in front of people — but it’s built on the same ground rules as the rest: entrepreneurship, integrity and a belief that growth should reach further than the business itself.
In practice, that means you’re not booking with a single-trip operator chasing its next sale. You’re booking with a team that answers to a family name across several industries, and treats every itinerary accordingly.

How we work
Booking with us isn’t filling out a form and waiting for a confirmation email. It’s five stages, the same ones we’d walk a friend through, from the first phone call to the message we send you after you’re home.
Meet a few of our guides
Every itinerary we build is only as good as the person leading it. These are a few of the guides you could end up sharing a vehicle, a campfire or a summit push with — people who’ve spent years, not seasons, reading this land.

With more than 15 years of guiding behind him, Faraj's particular focus is the Serengeti. Tarangire is the home of elephants, Lake Manyara is the home of birds, and Ngorongoro is where nearly every animal in the region comes together in one place. Faraj's experience covers all of them.

Watch the trip. Then read what they said.

Why we keep doing this
We want Tanzania to be more than a destination you tick off. Our vision is a Tanzania safari or Kilimanjaro climb that leaves you with a story you actually tell — not just photos you scroll past.
To get there, every trip we plan is measured against one mission: serve the traveller with excellence, serve the people who work alongside us with fairness, and leave the parks and communities we move through better than we found them.
- Creating valuable, honest travel experiences
- Putting the traveller at the centre of every itinerary
- Developing local guides and creating jobs
- Building relationships that outlast a single trip
- Reinvesting in conservation and the communities we move through
- Continuously improving the way we plan and host

Community & conservation impact
Part of what we earn on every safari goes back into the ground we operate on, in step with the wider Tazan Foundation’s mission — because the value of a trip shouldn’t end when the vehicle drops you back at the airport.

You don’t have to start big to build something big
The first customer may be one person.
The first vehicle may be borrowed.
The first trip may not be the trip you eventually become known for.
But every beginning can become a foundation.
We’re still building — new routes, new partnerships, new reasons to come back. If you want to be part of the next chapter, our trip planners are a message away, or you can reach the team directly on our contact page.
