Very few other vehicles
A meeting point of eastern and southern African species

Top experiences

Predator-focused game drives along the Ruaha River
Walking safaris in the bush
Birding (570+ species)
Sundowners among the baobabs
What makes it special

Sheer wildness and predator action — Ruaha holds a significant share of Africa's remaining lions, with a fraction of the crowds of the north.

Good to know

Remote and best reached by air. Dry-season game viewing is exceptional as animals crowd the river. A serious safari destination, not a first-timer's quick stop.

Best time & how to combine it

June–October. Pairs with Nyerere for the classic southern circuit.
